Area, Accomodation and Food

Our camp for the race will be in Providencia de Dota. Get ready to experience unspoiled Costa Rica and what the locals call Pura Vida (the pure life). Nestled in the heart of Costa Rica’s highest mountains and far from the usual tourist paths, Providencia is Costa Rica at its finest. You will sleep in tents and lounging areas will be provided at the campsite. Expect campfires, swimming holes and a laid back camp vibe. The camp will stay in the same spot for the duration of the race so no need to pack your bags every morning. Breakfast and dinner will be provided daily along with snacks and lunch items during the race. There will be a banquet and awards ceremony in San Jose on the evening of the 25th.

    The biking stuff

  • 4 days of blind racing on unspoiled Costa Rican singletrack
  • Event Swag
  • Professional timing and course marking
  • Professional level first aid and feed stations on course every day
  • Professional mechanics service
  • Prize money in pro category

Based out of Providencia, the race will spend 4 days exploring the area's best and most remote singletrack. All stages will be raced blind with no pre-ride or walk. Expect varied terrain from steep jungle gnar to high-speed backroads. Stage lengths will vary from 4-15 minutes, with 3 to 4 stages per day plus a prologue. Riders should be comfortable spending 3-6 hrs in the saddle with as much as 1500m of climbing in one day. Transfers will be a mix of pedaling and shuttles to maximize daily descending. Costa Rica’s mountains are steep and unrelenting so solid technical riding skills are a must

You will fly into San Jose on the 21st of February, 2017. A TransCR shuttle will meet you at the airport and take you to the first night's accommodation in San Jose (f you arrive earlier to Costa Rica, we can organize your pick up on February 21st, anywhere in the San Jose area). Shuttles will leave the following morning for Providencia where racers will have time for bike set up before racing the Day 1 prologue. There are direct flights to San Jose from all over North America and Europe.  Email if you need assistance booking..

The TransCR Team

The people behind TransCR make for a very experienced team. Together the TransCR team brings over 50 years of biking experience to the event. Coming from different biking backgrounds each team member makes a great contribution in putting together a world-class event.

Jay Balabas

Jay is a seasoned rider and experienced traveler who also co-owns the Bicycle Cafe bike shop in Canmore, Alberta. A well-known supporter and involved member of his local bike community, he's always keen to participate in any local event either as rider, organizer, host or volunteer.

Paulo Valle

The guy behind the trails of the TransCR, Paulo is the trail builder and course designer of this unique event. Forever riding his bike, the Costa Rican knows his country and its untouched, remote parts very well. A true local rider, Paulo loves epic rides and long, tough descents. He has also been a regular BC summer visitor for over a decade and has ridden in many places around the world. His goal for this enduro: "to bring top level racing to my country."

MTB Events (Erick and Luigi)

MTB Events is Costa Rica's finest bike event organizer. Their experience and attention to detail at all of their events is second to none. Erick and Luigi have been either as riders or collaborators to many of the most prestigious bike races in the world and they show it in the events they put together. Among others, their emblem event is called The Guanaride - a grueling, multiday XC race on the North Pacific coast of Costa Rica, which just celebrated its 10th anniversary. With a great XC multiday race experience, Biker Events is stoked to be part of TransCR and apply all their experience to multiday enduro racing.
